Southend AirShow – Cold, Wet and full of people looking at the sky…weird eh

Posted in Friends, X-team at 13:01 by Joanne Crotty

I was looking forward to this years airshow as it was my first time going, without the cadets!!! Woooo! So my first year off …. fun eh, especially after hearing the weather forecast! Rain…and lots of it. But still nothing like the Southend airshow without a bit of rain.

So I met Jordan at Shenfield station at 11 as didn’t want to get up early and go with Peter, Paul Greg and Kelly. So we get there, get lost trying to find the sea front….apparently its harder then it seems to find it. But still we meet up in good time for the show to find Paul’s gone to the nice dry Press area, so we find a bench and then start to browse the stalls, we walk passed the air cadet stall and out of 5 of us i’m the only one stopped and asked “do you want to join the air cadets?” hmmmmm seeing as I am one, i Delcine with “sorry I’m ready a cadet.” and walk on.  So we finally met Paul and find a nice spot on the grass we can sit (on coats and under umbrellas of course).

The show started at one with the RAF Sea King doing a fancy display of loading and off loading passengers into the water to save him and put him on a boat….after one showing it got boring! Then they brought out the jets, by this time the heavens had opened once more to rain on our parade but still we had more attractions to see in the sky’s. Then the Red Arrows came out….this is was the only good set entertainment for the day, with  45 minutes of taking pictures and peters, Paul’s, Jordan’s and myself hands going numb holding up phone and cameras to take photos of them, clearly Greg and Kelly had the smart idea of sitting trying to stay warm and dry.

After Jordan decide he was once again hungry, that the chips he had before where not filling enough and drags me up and down the stalls on show again to view the kiddie climbing wall and buy a bacon roll and a hot chocolate (which turned out to be coffee) and so after starring at the weapons from the army and being confussed once again as Jordan’s girlfriend (So sorry Hannah! I cant imagine what you must go through!) buy candy-floss and head back to the others so once again get cold and wet on the middle of a hill. (Oh and in finding his food i missed the Herc!)

Sooo we watched the french version of the red arrows and that was the end of the show…fun eh. We then watched (and me, Peter and Paul teased and timed) Jordan on the climbing wall. Then headed home….a long train joinery and a walk home and done and dusted for another year!
